The Sunny Brooke Hospital Saga

For lack of a better description, I am going to stick with this one and hopefully my concern and utter horror will somehow manage to manifest itself.

For this is what happened to me a few months ago when I had to go to the Sunnybrooke Hospital lab to take a blood test.

All I would say is that Thank God my friend Stephie was there with me to save the day.

When we entered the lab, we were told to take a number and wait.  We did so and sat down to wait.

Then Stephie proceeded to tell me that this is how it worked.  A number would flash on the screen at the front of the room followed by a room number where we were supposed to proceed to.

However, there were no audio cues to tell me what was going on.  So I had to totally depend on Stephie to fill in the blanks.

When I approached the reception desk and politely asked how was I supposed to know when my number was called and which room I needed to go to, the answer was this “let your friend tell you.”

No, no!  this is definitely not acceptable and coming from one of Toronto Canada’s top hospitals, I find this to be insulting, condescending, and most of all!  A blind person’s rights have been sadly forgotten and trampled upon.

Here we go once more!  The medical profession of Ontario has definitely fallen down on the job once more and dare I say do they care?  Sadly no!

So what is my solution?  Time to take this Hospital to task and to once more chastise the Ontario medical Association for its attitude, lack of awareness, and actions!

Time to speak up and to identify!
