Together, we made history.
As you must be aware, Bill C-81 has passed and will be receiving royal assent today (June 21, 2019). After months of thorough review, by both the House of Commons and the Senate, and finally listening to your comments, advice and opinions on the bill, we achieved something great that our country as a whole should be proud of. Accessibility is a requirement, not an option.
Whether you appeared before the Social Affairs committee, met me personally or sent me an email that I appreciated reading since it helped me tremendously in my study of the bill, this could not have been done without you.
It is reassuring to know that our Canadian Youth will grow up in a Canada where accessibility is fully strengthened and respected.
Although Bill C-81 will do a lot of good in our country, let’s continue to build, together, this barrier-free Canada.
I thank you for all the hard work you have been doing for the rights of persons with disabilities and for the work that you will continue doing.
With respect and gratitude,
Senator Chantal Petitclerc
Hon. Chantal Petitclerc, C.C., C.Q
