BFC-CSB is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Annual Chris Stark Distinguished Advocacy Award!

This award category recognizes individuals in our community who have demonstrated superior and outstanding advocacy over a period of ten years or more as a leader.

The Chris Stark Distinguished Advocacy Award is intended to recognize an individual who has furthered the standing of our Rights in Canada through respectful leadership and activism.

Each year, this award will be given out to mark the landmark victory that Canadians with disabilities obtained on November 29, 2010 when the lower court of Canada mandated that the Canadian Government make their websites accessible to all Canadians; especially to Canadians with disabilities.

For 2020 we would like to honour the memory of the late Chris Stark who passed on in June of 2019. In recognition of their valued contribution to the Disability Rights Movement in Canada, the 2020 Annual Chris Stark Distinguished Advocacy Award is hereby presented to Chris Stark (posthumously) and to his wife Marie Stark.

Chris and Marie worked tirelessly on behalf of Canadians with disabilities and Marie continues to work quietly behind the scenes.

We would like to thank the late Chris Stark and his wife Marie for having contributed so freely and selflessly to the advocacy movement in Canada.

Sincerely,

Barrier Free Canada / Canada sans Barriers’
